AF100 is a field bus according to the international standards IEC 61375 [ 1 ] and IEEE 1474 [ 2 ], which broadcasts time-critical process data cyclically and deterministically according to the Publisher/Subscriber principle. The bus traffic is controlled by one or several bus masters. A bus master does not need to participate in data exchange, since devices exchange data directly.
Most devices of the Advant family, as well as other ABB and ADtranz control systems can be attached to the AF100. The 07KP99 field bus coupler attaches the controllers of the AC31 family of ABB Stotz-Kontakt (DESTO) to the AF100.

The AC31 sees the traffic memory as part of its address area (16 K window). The 07KP99 serves as repeater (regenerator) between optical and RS485 media. Therefore glass fibre and RS485 can be operated at the same time.
